    ARTIST WEBSITE

Like a word on the tip of your tongue that doesn't even exist yet, Infantree manages to be so completely encompassing of all things music, yet so consistently themselves that you feel familiar with their music from the moment you hear it.

Pitch perfect three part folk vocals, beautiful intricate guitar work, drums that have as much impact when they’re beating as when Avesar is holding back, and a constant rotation of instruments make up this playful yet extremely fine-tuned machine. Infantree’s members, now in their early twenties, were born and bred in Los Angeles and the influence their provenance has had on their music is clear. Southern California’s proximity to Central and South America and the cities rich Latino culture is heard in the guitar work of Alex Voidani whose proficiency in classical and flamenco guitar has a notable impact on the band’s sound. Add to that  Laurel Canyon era harmonies and a touch of 70’s rock and you get their driving, melodic and sometimes haunting signature sound.

    ARTIST WEBSITE

Bob Weir: With a touring history that has made him one of the most traveled road musicians of all time and a restless music personality that has kept him occupied for over 50 years, Bob Weir knows a thing or two about staying fresh and living in the moment.

Although best known as one of the founding members of the Grateful Dead, adding Dead staples such as “Truckin’,” “Sugar Magnolia,” and “Cassidy” to the band’s catalog, Weir obtained a long and affluent music career that has allowed him to do what he loves and share it with others for nearly his entire life.

    Chris Robinson

Chris Robinson, frontman for The Black Crowes, is a champion of classic roots rock that doesn’t try to form to current trends. Outside of the Black Crowes he’s released three solo albums since 2002, one of them live, to largely positive reviews. His solo work is softer but still embodies the roots sound that made his music famous.

    Jackie Greene

Where you're going has always been more important than where you've been. By his music, Jackie Greene appears to have been through every major American musical influence: from country, to jazz, to folk to rock. And, marked by the release of his newest album American Myth, it's clear that Greene knows where he's going. His roots twist to create a unique sound, combining the introspectiveness of an engaging songwriter with the energy of a chemically charged rock band.

The band is a potent example of the redeeming power of music and the ability of the human spirit to persevere through unimaginable hardship and emerge with optimism intact. From their humble beginnings in West African refugee camps Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars have performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages and matured into one of Africa’s top touring and recording bands.Throughout the 1990s, the West African country of Sierra Leone was wracked with a bloody, horrifying war that forced millions to flee their homes. The musicians that would eventually form Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars are all originally from Freetown, and they were forced to leave the capital city at various times after violent rebel attacks. Most of those that left the country made their way into neighboring Guinea, some ending up in refugee camps and others struggling to fend for themselves in the capital city of Conakry.Ruben Koroma and his wife Grace had left Sierra Leone in 1997 and found themselves in the Kalia refugee camp near the border with Sierra Leone. When it became clear they would not be heading back to their homeland anytime soon, they joined up with guitarist Francis John Langba (aka Franco), and bassist Idrissa Bangura (aka Mallam), other musicians in the camp whom they had known before the war, to entertain their fellow refugees. After a Canadian relief agency donated two beat up electric guitars, a single microphone and a meager sound system, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars were born.

Midnight Conspiracy

    ARTIST WEBSITE

In the ever growing sea of electronic acts out there, it takes more than talent and desire to distinguish yourself from the rest. It takes a mustache, it takes a ninja, it takes a big giant laser eye that can travel through time, space, and the realms of hell. It's a good thing then that Midnight Conspiracy possess all three.

The group has come a long way in a very short amount of time. Yes, they hit #2 on Beatport’s dubstep chart, landed in the Hype Machine's Top 5 six times, had multiple tracks on BBC Radio 1, and toured non-stop — melting faces with their hard hitting, bass heavy sets in over 50 cities on two continents. They’ve added the likes of Lollapalooza, Ultra Music Festival, World Electronic Music Festival (WEMF) and North Coast Music Festival to their resume, and it doesn't end there. What truly sets Midnight Conspiracy apart from other groups is their extracurricular activities outside of traditional performing and producing. They run their own clothing line under their Dead Fame brand and collective. They can be seen wheat pasting Dead Fame street art around towns. And their current pet project involves a 16-ft tall LED and laser pyramid structure dubbed “Eye Live ▲ Laser Lightshow”. At the rate they’re going, it’s no wonder that all EYES are on Midnight Conspiracy.

John started over from scratch. After seven years touring the world as drum-n-bass maestro Infiltrata, after winning over icons such as Goldie and Photek, John Dadzie gave himself a new name, a new sound, and a new determination. It was 2005 and the gentile beatmaker was inspired by sounds he heard spun by the likes Technical Itch, Skream and Benga. It was dubstep. And it was his calling. Once 12th Planet is born, the story really begins. The British dubstep movement takes hold in LA thanks to 12th Planet and the events he aligns himself with; Smog, Media Contender, HARD, and his own club night Dubtroit. Like the mythological twelfth planet (popularized by controversial author Zecharia Sitchin), our 12th Planet flies perpendicular to the system. His wicked beats are off axis. His subsonic frequencies surround you in their own orbit. America’s first king of dubstep is ready for impact.

Gramatik
    Saturday May 26, 2012 8:00pm - 9:00pm @ g. VIBETENT

    ARTIST WEBSITE

Gramatik has always been an early adopter. It began at the age of 3, when his mother would catch him glued to the radio in his older sister’s room, checking out the cassette tapes with American funk, jazz, soul and blues. He started making his first beats on an early PC by the time he was 13, and soon the kid from Portoroz, Slovenia figured out how to harvest the power of free file sharing to build a following throughout the US & Europe. Tracks spread, hype grew, tours followed, and before long his digital persona forged the initial inroads into the US market, landing him both a label and an agency.

Gramatik landed on US soil as a fully formed artist who knows how to do things his way. He signed to a label, Pretty Lights Music, that gives all of its music away for free, which went hand in hand with his own philosophy about ''freeing music by making music free''.  Soon after, he scooped up his hometown crew and moved to Brooklyn, NY. Alongside Gramatik, the multimedia collective known as Dream Big features guitarist and producer F.A.Q, video director and filmmaker Anze Koron and graphic and web designer Martin Kenjic, with whom he has been friends since they were kids, sitting in a small town on the Adriatic coast, dreaming of breaking out into the wide world beyond.  Now’s the time.

Of his new record #digitalfreedom Gramatik says, "My new EP bares the title #digitalfreedom. As an artist that based his entire career on the platform of free file sharing, I'm dedicating it to the fight against severe internet censorship bills we've been hearing about so much in the past months. Bastards have been trying to cripple the internet on a global scale with bills like ACTA/SOPA/PIPA and I'm sure there's more of them coming, so this one goes out for spreading awareness! Reject them all, they will never stop the sharing, the Internet is our realm, DIGITAL FREEDOM!"

With over 100,000 tracks sold on Beatport.com, topping all kinds of genre charts, Gramatik has clearly matured into a world-class producer. He earned nominations for “Best Chill Out Artist” and “Best Chill Out Track” at the 2010 and 3 best track awards at the 2012 Beatport Music Awards.  More recently, after posting a clever remix of Zeppelin's “Stairway to Heaven”, he shot to number 1 on HypeMachine in a matter of hours, and has been since appearing in the site's 'popular' top 10 chart with every new release.  Within the US, it’s been a huge year of growth for Gramatik, performing at festivals across the US and alongside labelmate Pretty Lights, including epic sold out shows at Red Rocks. This summer promises even more high-profile appearances, including gigs at Lightning in a Bottle, Wakarusa, Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, Wanderlust and many more.

#digitalfreedom will be released April 3 on Pretty Lights Music.

    Saturday May 26, 2012 11:00pm - 12:45am @ h. SOULSHINE

The boys from Sexfist are sneaking in to create a bluegrass late night to remember.  Stop by to see what trouble they're creating, and who they'll create it with!

    ARTIST WEBSITE

Guitarist Harrison Birch and banjo player Chuck Oakton met each other in early 2001 when, during the talent portion of the Mr. Universe pageant, both contestants played the same song. The song was Bill Monroe's 'Real Life Blues' and, embarrassing a moment though it was, an instant friendship was formed. They began playing as a duo.  Then in the summer of 2002 Peter Briarwood, with whom Oakton had worked in the adult film 'Shotgun Charlie,' began sitting in on mandolin.  The sheer amount of picking was really getting on everyone's nerves and the search began for a 'long note' instrument.  One afternoon outside of the 711 on Howard St., Chuck Oakton found fiddle player, Allen Ellwood, digging through garbage for his next meal.  Despite his foul stench and rancid attitude, Chuck knew he'd found the lead instrument the band was missing. Finally, in May 2003, bass fiddler Bradley Longwood blackmailed his way into the band and Sexfist was born. They have since taken Chicago by storm, amazing audiences with their high-energy, hard-driving picking and angelic harmony singing. Sexfist has won numerous awards and accolades including Third All-Time Highest Score on the Golden Tee game at the Oasis in Rogers Park, a citation in June 2005 by Officer Reginald A. White for disorderly conduct, and a 2007 Franky nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The band is not currently touring in support of its self-titled debut CD as they are not legally allowed to operate motor vehicles. So make sure you stop by Soulshine at Summer Camp to see this once in a lifetime experience!

Midnight Conspiracy
    Sunday May 27, 2012 3:15am - 4:00am @ g. VIBETENT

If you're familiar with bluegrass music, then you're tuned in to some of what Greensky Bluegrass does. They're also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. This quintet from Michigan has been staying up late at all the coolest festivals and stopping to play your favorite clubs and theaters across America for 11 years now. Nearly 175 shows per year has prepared them for the rigorous task of continuity. Greensky Bluegrass isn't slowing down.

Yonder Mountain String Band
    Sunday May 27, 2012 4:30pm - 5:45pm @ a. MOONSHINE

    ARTIST WEBSITE

Yonder Mountain String Band has always played music by its own set of rules. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they’ve created their own music that transcends any genre. Dave Johnston points out “What could be more pure than making your own music.” Yonder’s sound cannot be classified purely as “bluegrass” or “string music” but rather it’s an original sound created from “looking at music from [their] own experiences and doing the best job possible.” The band continues to play by their own rules on their new record The Show. The Colorado-based foursome has crisscrossed the country over the past eleven years playing such varied settings as festivals, rock clubs, Red Rocks Amphitheater in the band’s home state, and recently the Democratic National Convention in Denver at Mile High Stadium opening for Barack Obama. Their loyal fanbase has been built from this diverse setting of music venues as fans latched on to their genre-defying original sound. The band has long cited such varied influences as the bluegrass of Del McCoury, Johnson Mountain Boys, Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe, Osborne Brothers as well as the punk rock of Bad Religion, Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys. Somewhere in between these two tent poles are early 20th Century composers and alternative rock bands like Grandaddy and Postal Service. It’s all funneled through the band’s unique chemistry, honed since they first met at an informal club performance in 1998. With band members writing individually, in different pairings and as a collective, the album proves that this group is a collection of creative peers and you can hear it in the rich tapestry of music that makes up The Show. The band is a regular at bluegrass festivals like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the band's own Northwest String Summit as well as massive multi-stage events like Austin City Limits Festival, Bonnaroo and Rothbury. Fans are no doubt drawn to Yonder’s anything goes attitude, its humor and passion about music, and the band’s ability to stretch out live. “We love that people come to see us,” Johnston points out. “Everyone appreciates good music. Some people want to go to a recital and some people want to party.”But as its fans know, Yonder Mountain String Band does something a little different, more than just a musical party. The Show is the band’s most varied and versatile album to date, and the summation of the journey that these guys are on together. It’s bluegrass for the masses, acoustic tunes filled with dazzling chops, and it’s fun to boot. The humble Johnston sounds as surprised as anyone by the band’s success, but knows that it all boiled down to chemistry, which has never changed. “Somewhere down there we all kind of recognized that we had something unique,” he explains. “But there is no way I could have imagined the amount of success that the band has had.”

Gramatik
    Monday May 28, 2012 2:00am - 2:45am @ f. REDBARN

If you were to Google the name araabMUZIK, you would discover a lot of video’s showing this music producer hammering on an MPC as if he was Travis Barker on the drums. With his fast rhythmic touches on the machine – while donning a New Era fitted, some might call it poetry in motion, others might say it’s suicide on an MPC, but for the this producer it’s just another day on the job.
